Our office staff is trained to facilitate positive experiences for all patients, including those with special needs. We begin to see patients at age 6 months or when the first tooth erupts, and continue to see these patients until age 18. When a child has routine dental care beginning at age 6 months, he learns the dental office as part of a routine. Most of our patients who have been coming to our office since infancy can tolerate an entire dental cleaning, sitting by himself or herself in the chair, around age 3!
It is imperative children have positive dental experiences during childhood to help them build confidence and trust in the dental office throughout the rest of their life. Bad dental experiences can cause trauma. Often, adults with dental fear or anxiety have had previous bad experiences. At Dover Pediatric Dentistry, we strive to provide positive, fun dental experiences for children to establish trust and a fun relationship with the dental team.
We sometimes offer multiple, more frequent appointments to allow children to get to know our staff and office better, and to become familiarized with the dental appointment routines. Our Team is dedicated to positive experiences, which is why we do not restrain children in any manner, ever. We feel that the more trust and confidence a child has in the dental team members, the better the experience. We pride ourselves on helping patients acclimate to the dental environment in a way that will positively impact them for the rest of their lives.
